Match Report:Despite a strong performance from View, getting steadily better as the game went on, Racing King and Queen dumped them out of the cup.
Before the late flurry of arrivals in the away dressing, the starting line up was fluid. On kick off, a strong team lined up. The starting eleven didn’t last long, Joe hobbled off with an ankle injury, forcing sub Nuts into a wing back role. Racing started well, forced the View back, and only a good save lowdown from Kev kept it scoreless. Daz and the bustling Miguel kept the Racing defence on their toes when the orange shirts could break out.
The View backline was breached in the 35th minute. Some quick passing and a ball played into the strikers run, a finish into the corner – 1-0. Heads dropped, but the View looked like they should have had a penalty minutes later. A bit of a scramble in the Racing box, then Miguel got the ball under his spell, and his quick feet brought a challenge from the defender. PENALTY! No, not given. The ref gave a corner. 1-0, half time.
After a bit of soul searching at half time, The View went on to be the better side for the second half. The View midfield began running with real purpose into dangerous areas, and the defence snapped into challenges and won headers. The equaliser was coming. Around the hour mark, a corner won, Paul’s header deflected over. Z’s second delivery dropped into the box, Miguel volleyed low and into the net. Deservedly 1-1, and game on.
Racing quickly responded, a through ball, striker one-on-one, Kev charged out, contact. Penalty. 2-1. The View did not lose belief, pressed Racing back, but couldn’t find a way through. Game over.
The View deserved a draw, but couldn’t force extra time. Plenty of positives to take into the next games.
